Experience the mountains at first light

The Sunrise Challenge offers a unique opportunity to summit some of Eryri's (snowdonia) iconic peaks in time to watch the sun rise over the national park. These guided hikes begin early in the morning often in total darkness with just headtorches lighting the way. Together with your group the aim is to reach the summit just before dawn. It’s a unique way to experience the mountains, with cooler temperatures, fewer crowds, and incredible views.

Popular options include:

  • Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) – The highest mountain in Wales with a number of route options depending on experience and group needs.

  • Cader Idris – known for its dramatic views across southern Snowdonia and steeped in Welsh mythology and legend.

  • Moel Siabod – A quieter summit with far reaching views including all of the welsh 3000's on a clear morning.

  • Cnicht –  Often referred to as the 'Welsh Matterhorn' this distinctive peak is ideal for a shorter rewarding trip.

These challenges are led by qualified and experienced mountain leaders. All safety, navigation, and route planning is taken care of.

Suitable outdoor clothing, and a willingness to start the day early is all that's needed! Meeting times vary depending on the season but are generally between 1–4am.

The total time on the hill typically ranges from 4 to 8 hours depending on the route, pace, and mountain chosen.

If you're looking to do something different in the mountains then this is a memorable and rewarding way to start the day.
